On April 10 and 11, 2008, the NC State ERM Initiative hosted an academic conference focusing on enterprise risk management research and research opportunities. Leading academic ERM researchers were invited to speak on such topics as the ERM value proposition, the development of a scholarly research agenda on ERM, and training the next generation of risk managers. The NC State ERM Initiative has responded to the request for comment issued by Standard & Poor's on their proposed expansion of ERM analysis to nonfinancial companies as part of their overall credit ratings process. The ERM Initiative strongly endorses the S&P proposal to incorporate ERM analysis as an important component of the credit ratings decision. Read More >>

Many boards of directors are directing executive management to embrace enterprise risk management (ERM) to develop a stronger top-down holistic view of risks affecting the enterprise. In most cases, the board is delegating oversight of management’s risk processes to the audit committee. Three NC State ERM Initiative Faculty Fellows are the recipients of two ERM-related research grants sponsored by the Society of Actuaries. Don Pagach (Accounting), Richard Warr (Finance) and Greg Young (Ethics and Strategy) will receive research funding in 2008 for two separate projects examining issues related to managing reputational risk in the context of ERM.
