India Day at Exploris on Feb. 3

On Saturday, February 3rd 2007 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, Exploris and the Indian American Community will host India Day, a celebration of India, its people and culture. The festivities will include food, performances, hands-on activities and cultural demonstrations exploring both traditional and contemporary India, all culminating with the dedication of a life size bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

The dedication ceremony will begin at 2:00 pm with a performance of Gandhi’s favorite Indian folk song, to be followed by words from community leaders Tony Gurley, chair of Wake County Board of Commissioners, Arvind Shah of the Indian American Forum for Political Education, and Thakorbhai Parekh, who was associated with Mahatma Gandhi for 32 years.

Complimenting the weekend’s activities will be the showing of the IMAX film Mystic India: an incredible journey of inspiration. This film reveals the rich culture of India as it follows the incredible journey of Neelkanth, a young boy who walked for seven years and 8,000 miles across this vast land. Audiences will experience India’s geographic and cultural diversity, revel in the natural beauty of its land and architecture, and celebrate its spectacular festivals and spiritual wonders.
