Faculty Appreciation Week

Alpha Kappa Psi is reaching out this week to let faculty know how much they're appreciated. They hosted a breakfast Monday morning and have arranged for faculty to order in a lunch, that will be delivered to offices on Wednesday, and have a special final thank you set for Friday.

Energy Secretary Bodman to speak at Nelson - Oct. 23

U.S. Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman give a talk at Nelson Hall Tuesda, 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Nelson Auditorium, as part of his tour of NC State's energy-related research labs and programs. He will speak about U.S. energy programs and policy to students and the general public. He also will participate in an energy roundtable with leaders from state government and the energy industry. ...more

Assistant Professors Learning Community - Oct. 25

This university-wide learning community was established in the spirit of providing mentoring to junior faculty, which many established faculty report improved their chances of success in working toward tenure. All junior faculty and post-doctoral scholars are welcome. This series of meetings provides information for faculty on research and teaching issues, and is a way for junior faculty to get to know others who are also working toward tenure.

The Services and Product Innovation Management website was launched last week. Check it out .. and review the call for research proposals announced last week by Lynda Aiman-Smith, who is assistant director for SPI research programs. The deadline for proposals is Nov. 16.

Oct. 26 - Homecoming Porch Party and Parade Viewing

Stop by for refreshments and a great view of the Homecoming Parade, at this year's fourth annual Homecoming Porch Party ... refreshments will be available at 5:30, and the parade begins at 6 p.m. Remember: Hillsborough Street will be blocked off for the parade, so plan to park your car accordingly. This year, our students are invited to participate in the porch party and parade viewing, providing an opportunity for a bit of informal conversation. ...more

Nov. 2 - Nominations deadline for outstanding students Nominations for the Board of Advisors Outstanding Student Award are requested by Nov. 2. Nominees should be the college's most outstanding graduates and those who have served the college, the university and student organizations, and are undergraduate December 2007 graduates. Faculty or graduating seniors must nominate students, and ALL nominees are recognized at Commencement in front of their families and friends.

It's time to update the college's Speakers Bureau. Faculty are reimbursed for their expenses associated with this outreach activity, thanks to the support of First Citizen's' Bank. Please submit new or corrected information to Anna Rzewnicki. New 'speakers' are welcome.

Two more weeks to participate in the survey about online information security technologies

Your participation in this survey - and your help in getting the word out about this - would be appreciated. Oct. 25, 7 p.m., 29 Winston Hall - Ed Foulke, assistant secretary of labor for OSHA, will be speaking on the topic: "OSHA: Priorities and Challenges." His presentation is sponsored by the political science department in CHASS.
