Executive Programs Update

by Russell D. Thomas, Director

Wednesday, Dec 17, 2008

The NC State College of Management’s Executive Programs office provides business solutions that enable corporations to intensively manage their technology and innovations, supply chains, and services for competitive advantage.

In the past year, College of Management faculty worked with Executive Programs to deliver over 130 days of on-site training at customer locations in Turkey, Hong Kong, Western Europe, Canada, and Central and South America for a variety of customers including

  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina
  • Meadwestvaco
  • North Carolina Biotech Center
  • Nortel Networks
  • Red Hat
  • Xerox Corporation

Relationships established through the development and delivery of Executive Programs have led to funded faculty research projects, involvement in the college’s centers and initiatives, and internship and career opportunities for the college’s students. They also have enriched our students’ experience by enabling faculty to stay current with the host of business and managerial issues that companies are facing, providing real world examples for classroom discussion and case studies for students in our full time and part time academic degree programs. Greater awareness of the college’s areas of expertise and unique focus on the management of innovation and technology also opens the door for consideration of the college’s academic programs by company employees.

Administrative Changes

On July 1, 2008, the NC State Executive Education LLC was created under the NC State University Foundation, providing the vehicle through which the College of Management now contracts and delivers its custom executive training programs, drawing on the expertise of its faculty and colleagues at NC State and at other institutions.

Paul Mugge, director of the college’s Center for Innovation Management Studies and former IBM executive, was named to the additional role of executive director for Executive Programs, to provide strategic oversight for its growth and development. His expertise and corporate experience in the management of innovation, services, and projects is a valuable asset and reflects the college’s commitment to growing an internationally competitive Executive Education program.
