April 2009- MAC Alumni Newsletter
Dear MAC Alumni,
Wow – it has been a very busy and wonderful admissions season for the MAC Class of 2010. Our goal for this season was to have approximately 100 students enter the class, moving towards our longer-range goal of reaching 120 students in the program. Over 300 prospective students applied to the program by the March 1st deadline – an increase of 23% over last year (which was a record itself)! We accepted 124 of these applicants. So far, we have had 17 students decline, and 103 students have indicated they will be attending our MAC Program in the Class of 2010. We are just waiting to see what the remaining 4 will decide. And it’s not over – we still have another 2 strong applications who are waiting on GMATs, etc. and 7 applicants who are on our waitlist.
Some stats on the 109 potential students in the new class: their average GPA is 3.49 and their average GMAT is 585. There are 54 students from NC State and the remaining 55 students come from 36 other universities. Forty-six students had or will have an internship with one of the regional, national, or international public accounting firms, while another 20 students have internships with corporations, state agencies, or local accounting firms.
We are planning to have 17 fellows in the current class - nine out-of-state students and eight in-state. Of the 17, we have already selected three Academic Fellows, and two fellows were pre-placed with Cherry Bekaert & Holland. The remaining 12 fellows candidates interviewed on campus March 12th and 13th and are now in the process of office interviews. I’ll let you know in the next e-mail how our fellows are progressing.
We could not have such a strong MAC program without your participation. I would like to start with thanking the many of you who made phone calls to targeted prospective students – you were a great influence on them, and definitely helped to sway their decisions to attend NC State. Seventy-nine percent of the students called during the campaign will be attending the MAC Program in the fall.
In addition, I would like to thank all of the alumni who attended our New Student Social on Friday, March 13th at Humble Pie. It was great to see all of you, and the students enjoyed the chance to interact with you. I was afraid that we wouldn’t be able to hold the social this year due to the budget cutbacks, but eight accounting firms stepped up and co-sponsored the social for us. Thanks to Cherry, Bekaert & Holland; Deloitte; Dixon Hughes; Ernst & Young; Johnson Lambert; Langdon & Co.; McGladrey, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
