May 2007 - MAC Alumni Newsletter

Dear MAC Alumni,

Well, admissions season is over and we are already knee-deep in summer school and planning for fall recruiting activities.  Incoming students are here taking prerequisites and their first MAC classes, while members of the MAC Class of 2007 are back on campus for the next month for CPA Exam Review.

Our MAC Class of 2008 is 90 full-time students and 5 part-time students (plus two part-time students carrying over from last year)!  The average GPA for the new class is 3.55 and their average GMAT is 578.  There are 54 students from NC State and the remaining 41 students come from 32 other universities.  We have 14 fellows in the current class: two Academic Fellows (one interviewing who may be placed with a firm) and twelve fellows who were placed with PwC, E&Y, Deloitte, McGladrey, Grant Thornton, Cherry Bekaert & Holland, Dixon Hughes, Johnson Lambert, and LarsonAllen.  Of the 14 fellows, eight are out-of-state students and six are in-state students.  I am looking forward to interacting with so many talented students!

It was great to see many of you at the MBA/MAC Graduation and Networking Reception that was held on Wednesday, May 9th at the State Club.  I hope you had a good time reconnecting with other alumni and meeting many of our new MAC alumni from the Class of 2007.  We’ll definitely keep these social activities going and hope that you all get a chance to attend one at some time.

As a matter of fact, we do have another social opportunity coming up soon.  You should have received an invitation to our MAC Alumni and New Student Social on Wednesday, June 13th.  Please join us for this opportunity to network and socialize with MAC alumni and the new MAC Class of 2008.  The reception will be held from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm at Hi5 restaurant in downtown Raleigh.  Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and soft drinks will by served, and a cash bar will be available.  Dress is business or business casual attire.  Please click here to RSVP or contact Andrea at andrea_young@ncsu.edu or 919-515-1007 by June 6th if you are interested in attending!

We currently have another group of seven students in Prague for Study Abroad with Bruce Branson.  They are studying advanced accounting topics for three weeks (better than doing it in two weeks like last year), and several will remain for another three weeks to take the ERP Systems IT course with Dr. Marianne Bradford.  I’m disappointed that more students did not take advantage of the Study Abroad opportunity, and we are currently surveying the incoming students to find out why so few decided to go to Prague.  I think that international education opportunities are important for students, and we’ll be working on alternative ways to get students this experience.
