October 2007 - MAC Alumni Newsletter

Dear Alumni,

I realize that it has been a while since you have heard from me.  This has been a busy time of the year for us – starting fall semester with our new class of MAC students, gearing into firm recruiting activities, traveling with students, and so on.  It’s good to be settled in a little now, before the next wave comes, so I thought I’d send you an update on our activities!

Let me, before anything else, invite you all to our fall MAC & MBA Professional Networking Reception (Alumni Social) – which is tomorrow, Tuesday, October 9th at Vaughn Towers at NC State’s Carter Finley Stadium.  The reception runs from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer and other beverages will be available.  Please come and visit with other MAC alumni, current MAC students, and accounting faculty – I would love to see you!  RSVP to Andrea Young at andrea_young@ncsu.edu.

In August, we once again took students on the annual Tour of Cities to Charlotte, Atlanta, and Washington D.C.  Each trip took two days - we visited several accounting firms, held mini “Meet the Firm” events for firms we could not visit, and had an alumni social in the evening.  It was so nice to see those of you who came to the socials or visited with us during office visits – I always enjoy finding out how your careers and lives are progressing!

Fall semester started with a bang on August 22nd, and our MAC Orientation was held Friday, August 24th.  We held two MAC alumni panel discussions as part of orientation, and I would like to once again thank those of you who came and participated: Brian Crossland (Class of 2004), John Wilks (Class of 1997), Eileen Barbara (Class of 2006), Pat Roper (Class of 1998), and John McKeever (Class of 2005) participated in a panel discussing the transition from school to work.  Heather Johnson (Class of 2003), Jerry Hanes (Class of 2001), Steve Quinton (Class of 2001), and Tracy Thompson (Class of 2000) participated in a panel discussing different service lines available in accounting firms.  The students really enjoyed asking questions to these alumni and hearing their experiences.
