December 2007 - MAC Alumni Newsletter

Dear MAC Alumni,

Happy Holidays to you all!  Classes are now over for fall semester and graduation took place yesterday.  It has been a whirlwind of a semester and we are looking forward to a nice break before starting the rush of admissions for the Class of 2009.  The University is shutting down from December 22 – January 1, so after Friday, December 21st, our whole MAC Team will be out until Wednesday, January 2nd. 

In the spirit of the season, I’d like to summarize some of the highlights of the MAC Program this year:

Class of 2007 News:

  • 100% of those seeking employment have positions as of 12/31/07!
  • I’ve heard from many graduates of this class who have passed the CPA Exam on the first try – Congratulations!.  If you are from the Class of 2007 and haven’t let us know your results, please e-mail me!

Class of 2008 News:

  • We had 228 applicants, surpassing the 189 applications for the Class of 2007.
  • The class includes 90 full-time students and 5 part-time students.  Approximately ½ of the students came from 32 schools other than NC State.  The average GMAT was 580 and the average GPA 3.54 (both higher than any previous year).
  • The Class of 2008 includes 14 fellows and 31 students who had internships.  There are 23 students who received scholarships and 41 with Graduate Assistantships.
  • We had the Prague Study Abroad Experience during Summer I.

MAC Personnel:

  • We hired Kelly Hardy as a new Assistant Director, Career Services starting July 2007 (she is job-sharing with Katherine Hansen)
  • We hired Janice Wetherbee, as our new Assistant Director, MAC Admissions starting November 2007. 
  • Andrea Young, our Program Director, had a baby boy, Jack William Young, on Wednesday, November 14th.  Mother and son are doing great!

Career Service Activities:

  • We took a June Tour of Cities to Greensboro and August Tour of Cities to DC, Atlanta, and Charlotte.
  • Meet the Firms was held in September, involving 20 firms, and we had a Corporate Roundabout in September involving 5 corporations and 1 government agency.
  • Over 90% of those seeking employment have positions as of 12/31/07!

Admission/Recruiting New Student Activities:

  • We held information sessions for prospective students at 15 different schools, two others at NC State, and one in Atlanta
  • Countless brochures, letters, postcards were sent to hundreds of prospective students and accounting programs across the United States.
  • We promoted the MAC Program at the annual NABA and IMA Conferences.
  • “MAC for a Day” activities were held two days in January and two days in fall semester.  We have set two more dates for “MAC for a Day” – Tuesday, January 15th, and Thursday, January 17th.  Each session will take place from 11:00 am – 2:45 pm.
