Professional Career Highlights
While an undergraduate at Queens University I did an internship with Wachovia Securities as a Marketing Director with a Retirement Planner. I currently work for Deloitte in the Charlotte office as an auditor.
Why did you choose the NC State MAC Program?
After coming to NC State for my interview I saw firsthand how helpful the faculty and staff were to everyone. After this experience I knew this was where I wanted to get my degree. Another influence was the high ranking of the program nationally. It was a big plus knowing that I would be graduating from a school with a great reputation all over the country.
What did attending the MAC Program help you achieve?
The MAC Program helped me achieve a better understanding of myself. I was able to gain a better feel for what I wanted to do after school and what it would take for me to accomplish my goals. Through the MAC Program I was able to learn what it takes to succeed in the real world. My experiences at NC State made me a better person therefore making me an asset to the accounting world.
What was your most memorable experience while in the MAC Program?
My most memorable experience was being involved with the Fellowship Program. Even though this was a very stressful time it was one of the best times for me. The reward at the end was worth all the stress. I met great people and was able to secure my job at Deloitte. Another experience that I enjoyed was the Meet the Firms event. I helped the MAC Program staff at this four evening event. It was very exciting to see how students and firms interacted and how excited and interested the firms were to have NC State students work for them.
Your thoughts on the faculty and curriculum of the MAC Program?
The faculty and staff at NC State were my favorite parts of the program, besides the other students. I loved how willing the professors were to help us at anytime. The director of the program, Dr. Krawczyk, is the best! The curriculum is also very strong and competitive. It is challenging but at the same time prepares you for the real world of accounting. We were able to get both a background in tax and audit rather than having to select a track, and I think that is an advantage. The IT & ERM concentration options are also very strong aspects of the program.
As a MAC Program alumni, do you have any advice or tips you would like to give prospective students trying to decide what school to attend?
Go with your gut feeling. There are a lot of different aspects of a program to look at when deciding on where to attend. It is really important that you feel comfortable with the school. Consider the faculty and staff at the individual schools and it is important to look at how the career services area works with the students. This is so important because you want to make sure the resources are there to help you secure a job. If you have a good career services department they can help you with all the stress of finding that first job. Also, it would be important to consider the pass rate for the CPA exam. Most students have the goal of passing the CPA exam. If you can find a school with a very successful pass rate that is a bonus.
What were the highlights of your time in the MAC Program?
It is important to make new friends in the MAC Program. These people are going to be lifelong friends and are going to be the ones that you call on when you need something throughout your career. My time spent getting to know my fellow students and making new friends made my time in the MAC program more enjoyable.
