Frequently asked questions from prospective students:
Do I need an undergraduate degree in accounting to be admitted to the Master of Accounting program?
No, but you will need to satisfy the prerequisite requirements.
May I send you my transcripts, GMAT scores or references before I submit my application?
Yes, although it is preferable to send everything together.
Are interviews required for admission?
The MAC program requires a personal interview as part of the application process. Interviews may be waived in certain circumstances. Please contact Ryan Platin, 919-515-4431, to an interview. Interviews may be conducted as early as October or November before the Feb. 1 or March 1 application deadline.
Are admissions decisions made on a rolling basis?
No, all admissions decisions will be made promptly after both the February 1st and March 1st application deadlines.
How will I receive an admission decision?
You'll receive an official letter of admission or denial along with a letter from the Dean of the Graduate School. (Please note: we will not give admission decisions over the telephone.)
Will I know the reason if I am denied admission?
Yes. The official letter will state the reasons. The most common reasons for denial are:
- Undergrad academic performance
- GMAT scores
May I reapply if I am denied admission?
Yes, but only for the following year. We will hold your application materials for one year but we suggest you supply additional information to strengthen your chance of admission.
How do I obtain the status of my North Carolina Residency request?
Contact the Graduate School Admissions Office at 919-515-2872.
Is it possible to receive an admission fee waiver or refund?
No. Once your application fee has been received and processed you cannot receive a refund.
Do I need to take any MAC classes during the summer?
While it is not required to take any summer classes for the MAC program, we often recommend students do so in order to lighten the course load during the fall and spring semesters. The fall semester is a heavy recruitment period requiring a lot of time from students. Please indicate on your graduate application that you intend to enroll for the summer if you decide to take classes then.
Can I enroll in the MAC program part-time?
We started a part-time option for the program beginning Fall 2006. This option requires a student to take two classes a semester and complete the program in two years.
Part-time students take the same classes as our full-time students. ACC classes are generally offered two each day Monday-Thursday in the period from 1:30-4:15. Two MBA courses are also required for the program, and many of these are offered in the evening.
Should I find an internship for the summer prior to the start of the MAC program?
The MAC program encourages accounting students to participate in internships with public accounting firms or corporations to enhance their educational experiences and their professional skills. However, internship experience is not required to be admitted to the MAC program.
