As a faculty member, Tyler said she found teaching business in another country provided a meaningful experience for her students.

“The International Business course was the easiest to connect with the time in China,” Tyler said.

"Students spent a good deal of time discussing local applications of the principles [learned during class] that they had seen as they socialized, ate and did business during our five weeks.

“In the Introduction to Business, we had the opportunity to discuss how the basic management principles might be different in China and the U.S.,” Tyler said. Students in both classes kept a journal each day, recording what they had seen or experienced and how it related to the classes they were taking.

“China is a very important place for business right now in the world, so it was a great opportunity to study this subject there," Remcheck said.

She also says she “really enjoyed the city we lived in. It was one of the most beautiful places I've been to, and the people were so kind.”

The students also had the opportunity to participate in an NC State luncheon held in June to welcome Chancellor James Oblinger and a delegation from the university and North Carolina during their visit to the area.

NC State is offering a wide range of study abroad programs for 2008. Details about the Zhejiang University and other programs are available online at the university Study Abroad website.
