The SPI Initiative works with academic partners at NC State, other universities and in industry to advance research-based knowledge about the growing field of services management. Following are among the areas of research currently under way.

Research in Services Business Strategy

Includes examining how to:

  • develop business strategy in services
  • conduct modeling
  • use quantitative forecasting and resourcing
  • transform business strategy into something with high future predictability

Research in Services Innovation

Seeks to increase understanding of:

  • the development, adoption, diffusion and adaption of new services
  • the complex alliances and partnerships that are a likely part of a services system or service network

Research in the Human Talent and Talent Structures

Explores aspects of services' need for people:

  • who can respond to changes with speed and flexibility,
  • who understand aspects of client relationships, social networks, business and technology

Research in Services Business Processes

Service Science can be a way to apply mathematical and decision models for demand analysis, supply planning, price setting, and other aspects of recurrent business.
