Welcome to TEC
Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization (TEC) teaches graduate students from business and technical disciplines the innovation and entrepreneurial processes necessary to transform new technology platforms into successful businesses. A team-based approach, using "real", new-to-the-world technologies and a proprietary commercialization methodology are used to provide the students with an unparalleled opportunity for hands-on commercialization experience.

TEC has three major activities:

Course Sequence Academic Research Commercialization Clinic

Education TEC is part of the MBA program in the College of Management and fulfills the Minor requirement for many technical graduate degrees. Using technologies provided by our technology partners, students learn how to bridge the gap between the laboratory and the market place. The culmination of our efforts results in a business plan that can be (and has been) used to start new high tech companies.

Past projects and outcomes

Research TEC is focused on high-technology entrepreneurship, technology commercialization, new venture creation, and project championing. Our research has been sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology, and Science (KIETS), Center for Innovation Management Studies (CIMS), and royalties generated from successfully commercialized class projects.

Commercialization Clinic is an outreach activity that provides limited technology assessments, referrals and guidance to technologists who are unfamiliar with the processes of how to start a company built upon their technology.
