About the Concentration

Students in this concentration learn about the basics of computer hardware, software and networking and how to apply that technical knowledge in the business workplace. For graduates, there is great flexibility to work in IT across a number of fields and types of companies, in contrast to computer science and computer engineering programs which focus on programming and lead primarily to development and programming jobs at technology-specific companies.

What is Information Systems/Information Technology?

Organizations use information systems to process and analyze data, streamline activities, and manage resources and assets. Students in the information systems field learn how to apply information technology theory and techniques to business functions such as accounting, marketing and manufacturing. Topics of study include software application development for business, networking and telecommunications, database management, knowledge management, hardware, and security & privacy.

*BUS 340 is a prerequisite for all IT concentration courses.
**BUS 440 should be completed prior to or during the same semester as BUS 449.
