The following policies apply to undergraduate students in the NC State University College of Management.

GPA Graduation Requirements

Students must have a 2.0 overall GPA in all courses attempted at NC State and a 2.0 GPA in all courses attempted in their major. Major courses are as follows: All ACC courses, BUS courses, EC courses (former EB, ECG courses are also included).

Graduation/Diploma Cards

In your final semester, you must notify the college of your intention to graduate. This is done by completing a Diploma Request Card and Senior Survey in the Office of Undergraduate Programs in Nelson Hall by the end of the second week of the semester (or first week of the summer session) in which you plan to graduate.

Transfer Credit

Students in the College of Management who desire to take courses at another institution must obtain prior written approval from the Office of Undergraduate Programs in Nelson Hall in order to ensure transfer credits will apply toward fulfilling graduation requirements. Students often need to provide catalog descriptions for the courses that they would like to transfer. Failure to obtain advance approval may result in not receiving transfer credit.

University Residency Requirement

To be eligible for a bachelor's degree from the College of Management at NC State, a student must be enrolled in a degree program and must earn at least 30 of the last 45 hours of credit through NC State courses.

College Residency Requirement

The University residency requirement that 30 of the last 45 hours be completed at NC State applies in addition to the following departmental requirements. The major course requirements for the purpose of residency are identified as "Major Requirements" on the official degree requirement sheets. Students must be admitted to either the BUS or ACC degree program at the beginning of a semester in order to qualify as being enrolled as a degree candidate during that semester. Students are subject to the following departmental residency requirements.

Accounting Residency Requirement

To be eligible for a bachelor's degree in Accounting, a student must complete at least 30 credit hours of the major course requirements for the degree at NC State University. These 30 credit hours must include at least six of the following courses: ACC 210, ACC 311, ACC 320, ACC 330, ACC 410, ACC 450 and ACC 490. In addition, a student must complete at least 30 credit hours (not restricted to courses in the major) while officially enrolled as a degree candidate in either the Business Management or Accounting program (e.g., students transferring in BUS during their last 2 semesters will not be permitted to graduate).

Business Management Residency Requirement

To be eligible for a bachelor's degree in Business Management, a student must complete at least 30 credit hours of the major course requirements for the degree at NC State University. In addition, a student must complete at least 30 credit hours (not restricted to courses in the major) while officially enrolled as a degree candidate in either the Business Management or Accounting program (e.g., students transferring in BUS during their last 2 semesters will not be permitted to graduate).

Economics Residency Requirement

To be eligible for a bachelor's degree in Economics, a student must complete at least one-half of the required economics credit hours (EC courses) at NC State University.

"C Wall" Classes

Accounting majors: ENG 101, MA 121/131/141, ACC 200, ACC 210, AC 310, ACC 311, ACC 330, ACC 340

Business Management: ENG 101, EC 201, MA 121/131/141, BUS 350, ACC 200, ACC 210

Economics: ENG 101

Credit Only (Pass/Fail) Courses

A College of Management student may take PE courses for credit only. In addition, a student may take up to 12 semester hours in other courses for credit only. These courses must be counted as free/restricted electives and will be reported as S or U. The grade for a credit only course will have no effect on a student’s GPA. However, the course will be counted in the cumulative hours attempted.

Free Electives

ECI 105, ED 296A or X, ENG 110, MA 101 (115), and similar courses will not count towards graduation as free electives or for any other required courses. In addition, MA 100, 101, 103, 105, 107, 108, 111 and FL 101, 102 and 105 in any language in which the proficiency requirement is met will not count toward graduation as free electives for students enrolled in any of the College of Management degree programs. Exceptions may apply to students transferring in from old degree programs. Prerequisites for required courses in some programs may reduce the number of free electives available.

Repeating Courses

The advisor's approval is required for students to repeat any course previously passed with a C- or better. Approval is normally not granted when:

  1. Students wish to repeat a course that they have passed with a C- or better after having successfully completed an advanced course covering similar material.
  2. Students wish to repeat a course that they have passed with a C- or better which is a prerequisite for an advanced course that they have already successfully completed, or
  3. Students wish to take an introductory course after they have successfully completed an advanced course dealing with similar material,
  4. Students wish to upgrade a course in which they have an outstanding grade of IN.
